Gonadorelin
The natural ten amino acid hormone that switches on the pituitary-gonad axis.
Effects studied or claimed
What it is used or promoted for, and where each effect has actually been seen
- Diagnostic test of pituitary functionFDA approved
- Fertility treatment by pump, studiedSmall human studies
- Maintain testicular function during testosterone therapy, promotedSmall human studies
How it is thought to work
Gonadorelin pulses cause the pituitary to release LH and FSH. Continuous exposure shuts that release down.
What the evidence shows
Pulsatile pump therapy induced ovulation and puberty in small studies. Evidence for use alongside testosterone is limited.
Safety and unknowns
Injection site reactions and, with prolonged use, tolerance.
