Pasireotide
A multi-receptor somatostatin analog for Cushing disease and acromegaly.
Effects studied or claimed
What it is used or promoted for, and where each effect has actually been seen
- Cushing diseaseFDA approved
- AcromegalyFDA approved
How it is thought to work
Pasireotide binds several somatostatin receptor subtypes, including one that is abundant in cortisol-producing pituitary tumors.
What the evidence shows
A phase 3 trial reduced cortisol levels in a meaningful share of patients with Cushing disease.
Safety and unknowns
High blood sugar is common and sometimes severe, so glucose monitoring is needed.
Regulatory status
FDA-approved as Signifor in 2012.
Regulatory status changes quickly. This entry was last reviewed on 27 October 2026. Confirm current status with the FDA before relying on it.
